How have meanings about sport and physical activity changed over time?

To answer this critical question you will explore the history of sport from the 19th century and how it has developed into the modern commodity it is today.

What is the relationship between sport and national and cultural identity?

Here you will focus on Australia’s sporting identity at both the national and regional levels. You will also discover how sport has impacted Indigenous identity as well as the identity of other cultures in Australia.

How does the mass media contribute to people’s understanding, values and beliefs about sport?

Sport has been very influenced by the media. Whether it be, which sports are covered on television or live streaming services, or the images used to depict people in sport. You will explore questions such as how the media influences our understanding of sporting events? and how sports have changed for the media.

What are the relationships between sport and physical activity and gender?

This final critical questions for Sport and Physical Activity in Australian Society looks at how sport has traditionally been a male domain. This brings together much of the previous critical question content, such as the history of sport and the role of the media as you examine gender in sport.
