Links between community and identity

Aboriginal peoples have always used sport to reinforce community and their identity. This can be seen through the use of games that promoted hunting skills needed by the community. The rules in many indigenous games were also more focused on the development of kinship with less emphasis on competition.

Dance plays a central place in Indigenous culture. It was used to pass on stories, and cultural ways of life.  Dance as taught and used both spontaneously and through ceremonies. Dance was often performed as part of a corroboree central to community and identity.
