Traditional activities and sports

Indigenous Australians have used sport as part of their lifestyle for generations. Compared with the English colonial lifestyle where sport was considered a separate part of their life. Daily hunting and gatherings, rituals and ceremonies were carried out in order to showcase their connection with the land and preserve the natural resources of that particular area.

Games were played for fun. There were no rules and it was seen as a way of enabling the younger generations to learn practical life skills. Indigenous Australians made use of their natural surroundings. Sport very heavily concentrated on their way of life- hunting, gathering, throwing, fishing and dancing.
